Kinsale GAA :: Match ResultMinorPrem Football County League 1st RoundKinsale produced a stirring comeback in the last minute to draw with Clonakilty in a first round minor league match played under lights in the fantastic new Clonakilty facility. Kinsale starting with 2 debutants to the minor grade in Micheal Cronin and Ross O Connor started well with a point from Gearoid Finn. Clonakility however struck for a goal and 2 points without reply to leave the Kinsale team in arrears with 10 minutes played. Craig Hackett showed all the skill that has led him to play at U21 and intermediate football with Kinsale making a string of excellent saves. The new midfield pairing of Jerimiah Wright and Fergal Rielly began to settle and with good ball being supplied into the forward line a goal resulted by Alan Gould. Jack Gould at centre back was working hard but could do little to stem the Clonakilty forwards who with ten minutes left in the first half hit a purple patch to score a goal and 3 points without reply. Kinsale responded with Joey O Leary and Anto Brodreick getting on top of their men to launch an attack with resulted in David O Donavan being fouled on the 20 metre line. Quick thinking from Alan Gould with a rocket shot led to a goal to bring Kinsale back into the game. A late Mark Eaton score gave a score line of 2-6 to 2-2 at half time. Starting well in the second half due to some excellent movement from James Murphy, Killian O Brien and Micheal Cronin Kinsale were to work 2 frees which A Gould Converted. But in an end to end game Clon hit back to lead by 5 points with 10 minutes remaining, Timmy Broderick just onto the field hit his first score as a minor to keep Kinsale in the game. Two more debutants Cian Hackett and Stephen O Leary entered the field at this stage to replace some weary legs. It was at this stage that Kinsale showed extreme courage in the fight back with runs from deep by Niall McCarthy and Jack Gould resulting in Kinsale levelling the game with 2 minutes to go. As the game seemed destined for a draw Clon took a short kick out which went all the way down the field to give them a point advantage. Sensing a win Clon scored another point to lead by 2 point in injury time. But tremendous spirit again by Niall Macarthy resulted in a point and with the last play of the game Jack Gould pointed to level the game. Kinsale showed good character to earn a draw and will hope to improve on this display as they play Millstreet at home on Sunday at 2pm. |
