Kinsale GAA :: Match ResultU-21A Football County Championship Final RoundKinsale regained the South East under 21 football championship after a lapse of ten years with an emphatic win over Courcey Rovers at Ballygarvan. With man of the match Brian Coughlan scoring the opening point after a minute, Kinsale were not to trail for the whole match. Peter Fitzgerald goaled after a great team move and when Fitzgerald added two frees, Gould a point and another from Coughlan, Kinsale were looking comfortable. With Niall McCarthy, David Ward and Gearoid O’Leary giving great individual displays at the back, Coughlan and O’Callaghan always in control at midfield and Jack Gould and Fitzgerald showing up well in the full forward line, Kinsale were to dominate the opening period. Conor Stallard finished off a great move with a thundering finish to the net, just before been replaced due to injury. With Jack Gould adding a point it meant Kinsale went in at the break leading by 2.06 to 2 points. On the resumption Kinsale continued to push forward but some sloppy play prevented them adding to their goal tally. With a much disciplined Kinsale defence keeping Courceys at bay, the match was won with twenty minutes to go when Alan Gould finished to the net after a great pass from Ger O’Callaghan. Sub Conan Dillon added a point minutes after being introduced and after a long delivery from Derry O’Callaghan went straight to the net, it was curtains for Courceys. Gould and Coughlan added points while Fitzgerald’s last free meant he finished with a personal tally of a goal and four points. At the full time whistle the scoreboard read 4.11 to 4 points in Kinsales favour and Brian Coughlan accepted the cup on behalf of his hard working team mates. A great championship win for Kinsale and they will venture into the county quarter finals in the summer knowing that they will have a great chance of progressing if they play to their potential. |
